Union Jack Club selects Astral

Astral Fire and Security has been selected by the Union Jack Club in London to provide a comprehensive fire and safety service.

Little known to those outside the military circles, the Union Jack Club is a private members club in the capital that has provided accommodation to service men, women and their families since 1907. All serving and ex-serving men and women below the Commissioned Rank in the Armed Forces are automatically full members of the club. The club also welcomes emergency service personnel and military personnel from abroad.

Rob Harris, MD of Astral commented: “We are delighted to be able to bring our expertise to protect such a vital and prestigious venue that supports service men and women across the country. Astral will ensure all fire and safety measures are in place at the London based Union Jack Club and that it remains safe, secure and compliant for years to come.”

The Union Jack Club has been standing at Waterloo for over 100 years and received over 20 million guests through its doors. Its founder was Ethel McCaul, a Royal Red Cross nurse, who was adamant that servicemen and women from the ranks should have a haven for themselves in the Capital. Ethel McCaul’s vision remains the club’s primary purpose today – to provide non-commissioned serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families a comfortable and friendly base for their visits to London.

It is beautifully furnished and kept to a very high standard with many unique pieces of memorabilia from conflicts past. One wall has a complete list of every person who has ever been awarded the Victoria Cross and this is continually updated.

The Club is a registered charity, generating some of its funds through its excellent conferencing facilities. These include numerous boardrooms, suites and dining areas, all of which are open to the general public.
